If I was a superhero, I would want have 8 hands. If I was a superhero, I make a double of myself. If I was a superhero, I would make it so I could work as fast as I run. Unfortunately for me, I am definitely NOT a superhero (at least I don't think I am...), hence I can not do everything all at once! Now for me, time management has never really been a major problem until now... As a student, I am used to the workload but just recently I have noticed it starting to creep up. In fact, this past week, my pile of coursework has made sure I can't see over my desk!
I am most definitely stuck with it, there is no excuse for not doing work (or so I am told), but it is physically impossible unless you are 'Super G'. I always try and give it my best, and usually my best is good enough, but alas, that is no more. I have watched endless youtube clips on advice on time management but to me, its nothing I don't do already. I have a wall planner, a timetable and a mound of sticky notes BUT somehow the pieces to this irritating jigsaw just wont fit together. My friends have had the same problem, there has been more than occasion when we have turned up with nothing to show because of this showcase and that essay, this concert, that rehearsal. It's all the same thing, but way more complicated. If only your teachers/professors would understand that everyone has priorities in life!
Then the epiphany rolled onto the driveway... I don't have to do it all at once! Just by 'chunking' my workload bit by bit, I have found a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders (only to be replaced promptly with my superhero cape!). Maybe you feel like 'chunking' isn't for you? Then I would advise if you have the same problems as me, try to prioritise your work but still manage to fit it all in- don't think that your plan of action is set in stone, its not and you can always go back and change it because lets face it, we are not always feeling up to do what you were when you planned it! If worse DID come to worse, go and talk to who ever teaches you, because at the end of the day, they have greater respect for you if your just honest. Also, speaking from (*cough) personal experience, its good to warn your teachers/professors beforehand because they have had a long day and the last thing they want is an unexpected 'Oh, erm, yeah, erm, sorry Sir/Miss' situation going on.
Hopefully (if my 'time management' skills are up to scratch), a post like this will appear on my blog every day this week. I hope you all like them, as I tend to find reading things like this useful... but then again, that could just be me, and there I go again, assuming that I am one of the cool kids. I think I need to get it into my head that just because I have super powers and a cape, it does not mean I am awesome.
